Requiescat in Pace, Requiescant in Pace, Requiesco in Pace

There was a king in far off lands
Who ruled a happy court
They fought off dragons by his side
Of every evil sort

With knights both fair and earnest
In pursuit of just and right
Who guarded him, and who he kept
Safe in every bitter fight

But fairest far of all this court
Most radiant of lights
Were seven maidens like the dawn
With souls both king and bright

No sorrow plagued this kingdom long
No evil long held sway
For blessed by these the knights would ride
And each foul power slay

The king had joy in servants fair
And they had joy in him
For when he fell they'd pick him up
As he would do for them

But time must ruin everything
And change cannot be stayed
The laughter in the court grew sparse
Their smiles stretched and frayed

So one by one they moved away
To live in other lands
Some in far distant royal courts
And some with other bands

Yet though they almost all have left
The king remains at home
Amidst a sea of memories
Atop a ruined throne

The halls which once had rung with song
Stand silently and still
And yards once home to happy games
Dark shadows start to fill

When dragons threaten lands once fair,
The king still rides alone
But oft his strength is not enough
And, beaten, he rides home

He wanders empy battlements
Stumbles down crumbling stairs
With only ghosts and wraiths beside
To hear his dreams and cares

So wrapped in yesteryear he's lost
E'er dreaming of the past
Sighing for days forever gone
As he will to the last

And wether he goes mad with grief,
Or mad with solitude,
Or maybe finds another court
To fill the halls anew

No man yet knows, but from afar
If you look towards his keep
You'll see it crumble day by day
As if the stone did weep.
