The Parting
Oh tell me why you have to go, oh say where I did wrong
My broken heart just has to know what happened to our song
The world was music fair and clear, and life seemed happiness
But now it's dark and full of fear, what wrong must I confess?
I loved you true and I still do, until the end of days
What evil did I do to you, that you no more can stay?
I cannot let you leave me so, you are my life, my sun
I cannot let you up and go, tell me what must be done
My dearest one, I'll try once more to say why I must leave
And then when I am gone I ask you not to sit and grieve
Our love was dreams and visions, and false hopes that cannot be
I have at last accepted what it is that you can't see
I love you dearly as I did, but this love cannot last
And so I act for both our sakes, and pray the hurt heals fast
Our love would die before too long, and we would tear apart
To save us from this dismal fate, I must break both our hearts
My love of you makes me let go, though I can't see your view
And though a smile I can't show, I bid you fond 'adieu'
I'll always disagree with you but go now if you must
Though I wish we could work this through, in your sad words I'll trust
I swear that I will always love the girl who stole my heart
But before man and God above, let our lives this day part
I pray you find another soul to love you dear and true
And after I pay sorrow's toll, perhaps I'll find one too
Farewell my love, and blessings be
And maybe down the road, we'll see,
Perhaps we'll one day we'll meet again
Remembering now, or rather, then
I hope we look back fondly on this time, and shed no tears
And now to put the past away, and face the future's fears
My broken heart just has to know what happened to our song
The world was music fair and clear, and life seemed happiness
But now it's dark and full of fear, what wrong must I confess?
I loved you true and I still do, until the end of days
